KUROW NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent

I AVeather.—Cold nights and mornings I and warm, genial days are the rule at the present time. A good fall of saow and plenty of frost would ensure good prospects for next season. The late rains have had a good effect in bringing on the grass. Concert.—The Kurow Minstrel Club gave its first concert on Thursday, 27th April, in aid of the local school. There was a bumper house on the occasion, and the general verdict is that the minstrels acquitted, themselves very well. The corner-men, especially, were very much in evidence, and kept things lively. A feature of the entertainment was the singing of M. .Mulvena, the youngest member of the company. This lad possesses a very clear voice, 1 rich in timbre and of good quality. The opening chorus was also much appreciated. A vaudeville sketch given by Messrs Reid and Mercer brought the minstrel part to a close. The second part of the performance took the form of a general concert, and the singers and instrumentalists are to be congratulated on the success of their efforts. The piub is especially indebted to Mr Black, of Dunedin, for his very much appreciated numbers. A word of praise is due to the ladies who assisted with the refreshments ; to Mrs M'Taggart, for her valuable services as accompanist; and to Mr Warwick, for his services- as door-keeper. The next concert will be in aid of €lie Kurow Presbyterian Church, and, as the comic element will predominate and an excellent farce will follow, the success of the concert may be taken for granted. The object of the Minstrel Club is purely ' "pro 'lionp publico," the'assistance of all local institutions, arid, as such, merits the public favor and support. ' Anglican Bazaar. —The bazaar in aid of the Anglican Church will be opened on Thursday and Friday next. The object is a good one, and 1 wish the bazaar every success. Hockey Club.—This Club has begun operations for the year, and will, I hope, have- another successful season.
