NOTES.
The Kowhai is due at Oamaru tonight from Dunedin to load for Napier and Gisborne. Another Union boat, the Pukaki, arrives to-morrow from Timaru. The Storm left Lyttelton yesterday for Dunedin, Oamara, and Timaru. She is due back at the Canterbury port on Thursday, and will leave the same day for Wanganui direct. The Breeze will leave Lyttelton to-day for Wellington. Napier, and Gisborne. A preliminary inquiry into the circumstances connected with the drowning of the young sailor Jean Yviquel, who was lost "overboard from the schooner Eliza Firth, off Stephen Island last Thursday, was held yesterday by Captain H. W. F. Wilcox, Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Lyttelton. The evidence will be forwarded to the Marine Department for decision as to whether any further inquiry is necessary.
