A FUTILE UNIONIST SALLY.
[By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.] (Pek Press Association.) Received May 13, at 8.5 a.m. London, May 12. In the House of Commons, Sir F: Banbury, in Committee of Supply on the Treasury vote, moved the reduction of Mr" Lloyd-George's salary in order to discuss the delay which ocr curred in the collection of the ihcomie tax. He alleged that the Government was robbing the sinking fund so avoid fresh taxation, ft- ' ' r Mr Lloyd-George replied that an official's mistake led to the wrong; and that, to prevent a repetition, the railways of England would hereafter bo assimilated to those of Scotland and compelled tc pay the tax as from January Ist. Mr Bonar Law declared that the Government was punishing the railways for disclosing the facts. Sir E. Cornwall commented on the seriousness of the income taxpayers being under the rule of permanent officials, the latter apparently assuming control of the administration. Nevertheless, this Unionist attack on the Government failed completely, and Sir F. Banburv's amendment was rejected by 214 to 149.
