Hastings, May 12. Beautiful weather prevailed for the first day of the Hawke's Bay Jockey ' Club's autumn meeting. The attendance was large, and the course was in good order, despite the recent rains. The totalisator handled £10,717, as against £6631 10s for the corresponding day of last year, when bookmakers were licensed, an increase of £4085 10s. Results : Longland Hack Handicap Hurdles, 1} mile. —Appin 1, Artie 2, Winchester 3. Scratched: Castle, Canter, and Cauldron, Won by five lengths, a half length between second and third. The Rabbiter fell. Time, 3min 20sec. Maiden Hack; C furlongs.—Aphaea 1, Alerrimac 2, St. Bees 3. Scratched: Ample, Otama, Mazurka, and Formulate. Won by two lengths, the same distance between second and third. Time, linin 20sec. Nursery Handicap; 5 furlongs.—Blue Lake l'. Bottle' 2, Rangltua 3. Scratched: Royal Scotch. From a good start Bliss at once took up the role of pacemaker, and passing the stand the order was: Bliss. Separator, Cheddar, and Lady AlenschikofMast. Going up the back. stretch Bliss led Separator, Fort William and Cheddar together in 'third place. • Five furlongs from home Separator led, but at the top of the straight Bliss, Separator, and Fort William were together, while Lady Alenschikoff, making her way through the field, was still a long way back. Fort William shook himself clear a few strides further on; and half-way down the running Lady Menschikoff set out to try and catch him. Fort William, however, had plenty of reserve, and ran home a comfortable _ winner by three lengths, the same distance separating second and third, Separator fourth, and Tenina fifth. Time, 2min 40sec. Karamn Handicap Hurdles; • 1-J mile.—Whakaweira 1. Hoanga 2. Corazon 3. All started. _ Reumac an&Longuer fell.
