(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, May 11. - The Ashburton County Racing Club's -autumn meeting was commenced to-day in fine weather. There was a large at-, tendance, including many visitors from Christchurch. Good fields took part in most of the events, and the racing was ■very interesting. The result of the Cup was a surprise, as the winner was the outsider of the party. She is an eight-year-old mare, with no previous form to recommend her. Cronstadt, the favoritjf, lost some ground through being caught m the tapes. Mr It.'Jfi. Harley, well known a few .years ago as a capable amateur rider, made his first appearance as a starter, and acquitted himself very creditably, except in the last race. Lohghcach Hack Handicap, of 70 sovs; second 7 sovs. and third 3 sovs; six furlongs.—Crosbie, '3yrs, 10.0 (inc. 51b pen.) (R. Hatch), 1; Stepineter. syrs, 9.11 (A. 'Telford), 2; Bolt from the P.lue, 3yrs, 8.0 (A. Wilson), 3. Also started :• Izdubar 9.3, Eaglestono 9-1, Nightlight 8.10 (inc. 101b pen.), Kalulu 8.9, Darracq 8-8, Dominion 8.0, and Portland 8.0. Stepmeter drew out at the start, followed by Crosbie, the pair opening out a good' gap from the others, who were headed by Bolt From th" Blue. At the entrance to the straight Crosbie moved up, and he won eomfortablv by half a length from Stepmeter, with Bolt From the Blue four lengths away, followed by Izdubar, Kalulu, and Portland. Also started: True ICnight 9.3, Umeraboy 8.13, and Glenfield 8.0. Armstrong showed the way from the start, with True Knight at the head of the others. "Turning for home, Zetland went in pursuit, but Armstrong held his own, and won very easily by a length, Zetland beating Gold Coin by three lengths, with Glenfield close up. Bush), 2; Chief Lochiel,, Gyrs, 9.5 (R. Hatch), 3. Also started: Cronstadt 8.0 ->aild Outlander 7.11. Cronstadt was caught in the barrier, and lost some ground at the start. Routine led for a furlong, when Canterbury took up .the running. At the seven-furlong post Canterbury was two lengths clear of Routine, with Chief Lochiel, two' lengths further back; just clear of the other pair. They raced ill this order to-the home turn', where the field commenced .to close up. Once in the straight, Routine joined Canterbury, and Chief Lochiel also moved up. Drawing away in the last 100 yards, Routine beat Canterbury by a length, with Chief Lochiel a length away third, and Cronstadt and Outlander some distance further back. Time, 2inin 8 3-3, see.

Also started: Portland 8.5, Bright Spur 8.2, Belle Grancle 7.11, Bolt from the Blue 7.11, Merc 7.6, Triumphator 7.6, Pleasure Bent 7.3, and Kilkenny 7.3. Portland was left at the post. Friwoliti weiit off smartly, and soon opened out a gap from Traitress, who was well clear of the others. At the entrance to the straight Traitress moved up to Friwoliti, but the latter held her own to a good finish, and won by half a length. Grand- Medallion was eight lengths away, just in front of Belle Grande, Bolt from the Blue, and Mere. Time,, lmin 1 4-osee.

Mademoiselle Ixe took charge soon after the start, and, drawing right away, had a lead of nearly half a dozen lengths at the home turn. Even Wave nut in a. .strong claim in the straight, but Mademoiselle Ixe won with a little to spare by half a length. Torrential was a length away, followed by Cardiff, Sea Girt, and Santa Claus. Sea King was. the quickest to begin, and Jie soon had a good lead from All Guns. On reaching the straight All Guns close*! up, but Sea King drew away again and won by four lengths.
