THE LIBEL ACTION. (Per Press? Association.) t ' Wellington, May' 12.; The motion for a new trial in the-libel action,' -Massey v. the Ni3iy: Zealand Times, 'in which plaintiff" claimed £2OOO damages ;for a libel arising out of a caritopn) - the/verdict going for defendant : co'm'pariy,'isi being Heard by the full Court to-day. ■ Briefly stated, the grounds of motion to set aside the verdict are: That the finding of the jury is; so defective that a judgment cannot be given upon it; that the Judge misdirected the jury; that the verdict was-against the weight of evidence; that tlie Judge admitted improper evidence,; namely, evidence of memory of witnesses of reports of what was said by members of Parliament in 'debates in the House and Legislative Council on both 30th November and 10th December respectively. Mr Bel], with him Messrs Gray and Pell, appears iu support of the motion, and. Mr Solomon, with him Mr Blair, in opposition.
