(Per Press Association.) MONOWAI IN DANGER. Napier, May 11.. While steaming down the coast this r orning between Gisborne and Napier kS teamer Monowai had a somewhat r2 rrow escape from being wrecked. Tr>. weather was thick, and a neavj Xt hung over the sea. Her position ; a3 regarded as perfectly secure, when ,nddenly the mist temporarily cleared, and it was seen that the vessel was fading towards the shore, on which the breakers were plainly visible. The Monowai was then about a quarter of a from land, but the engines were reversed, and after proceeding about mil* out to sea she headed towards Napier, and arrived without any unusual d<liy - Napier, May 12. The report of the narrow ..raoe of going ashore on the trip from Gisborne to Napier is unfounded. l" e ,earlier was very thick when she eritcrd the Bay, and a course was steered f o r the roadstead anchorage, a P rac ~ L always followed in heavy weather instead of making for the breakwater jurbor. ,
