GUARD OF RUN-AWAY TRAIN.

The guard of the-train which ran away from Otahjihu on the evening of Easter Monday and narrowly missed colliding with the south-bound Main Trunk express, has, it is stated, been reduced in rank as the result of an investigation into the- causes of- the -accident. Two other officials, who were also suspended, have been exonerated. It has been stated that Claude, whose promptitude was the means of averting a collision, will he given a free pass on the railways of the Dominion for the remainder of his life. Claude, however, lias not received any intimation to this effect,, although he has been thanked by "the Department for his conduct.
