Among those present were Lord Denman, Governorelect of the Commonwealth, Sir John Forrest, Major-General Downes, Sir It. A. J Talbot,' and-Mr M'Gowen. t Sir G. H.tßeid paid a tribute to Lord and Lady Denman, and >: said he looked forward with great confidence to Lord. Denman having a distinguished career in Australia. - . The Pall Mall. Gazette says the immigration statistics were a feature of Sir !G. Reid's paper. It points out that the i gain-- of 37,500 in. 1910 was only little | better than nothing when the vast .spaces were considered: It was still 'the-urgent duty of the State Governments to encourage immigration.
