SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

WAITAKI BIUDCK SCHOOL. At tlio meeting of householders the election of :i Committee for the ensuing year resulted as. follows: Messrs IJ. Williams, W. (.'lark, D. Jirosnan, ;Tas. Kelly, and F. Howard. At a subsequent meeting Mr J). Williams was reelected elmirmau and Mr .las. Kelly secretary. The following report was read at the meeting:— ! ... "Attendance.—During the year the attendance has increased, considerably. The roll number at the end of lastyear was 10.7, and is now .2-I.' The average on the roll Cor last quartor was 24. and the average attendance 23.o —the highest since the school opened. The attendance for last, quarter was exceptionally good, aiid it is to be hoped that parents will keep their children in regular attendance and thereby assist ibe teacher to obtain the most satisfactory results. "Kxaminalion. —The annual examination of the school by Chief-Inspector (jioycii took place on 30th September, and as shown by his report was again very satisfactory and reflected great credit on both teachers and pupils. The only candidate presented in Standard VI. obtained a proficiency certificate. Since then the school has had a surprise visit from Chief-Inspector ljichardson. and everything was found satisfactory and in good order.

•'Prizes mid Picnic. —The :iiinn:il distribution of prizes took place on December 22nd, and on the day following the annual picnic was held at the Point Hush," AYaintate, which was kindly pfoioed at tho disposal of the Committee by "Mr X. Francis. The members of Committee defrayed the children's expenses and the ladies of the district kindly supplied refreshments. The weather being all that could be desired and the spot an ideal one for a picnic, everyone enjoyed themselves ly"Socials. —During the yeai'your Committee held a social and also a concert and dance, and tho ladies of the district kindly assisted by giving a basket social, the result being the addition of CO Is Od to tho funds of the Committee. Tr. was unfortunate that owing to the inclemency of the weather the attendance at our concert and dance did not come up to our expectations. "Finances. —The financial position of the Committee has been improved during the year owing to the increased attendance, the Hoard's allowance now being about £3 10s as against £2 5s at ibis time last year. The receipts from all sources are £3l 15s 2d, and the expenditure £29 13s 3d (whieji includes a debit balance of £1 lis lid brought forward from last year), leaving a credit balance of £2 Is lid. "Meetings.—Your Committee have held 18 meetings during the year (which have been well attended), and have worked in perfect harmony for the best interests of the school. "Conclusion. —Your Committee wish to express their sincere thanks to Miss E. Marwiek for the efficient and creditable manner in which she has continued to fulfil her duties as teacher: to the ladies of the district for their kind assistance: to Mr H. Marwiek for gale for school ground; and also to all parents and friends who have '-assisted voiir Committee during the year." \

IXCHOLME. At the annual meeting of householders the following were elected a School Committee for the ensuing year: Messrs John Grant, James Robertson, James Xewlands, John New-lands, and Win. Kininmont. At a meeting held afterwards Mr John Newlands was elected chairman and Win. Kininmont secretary. The annual report for the year was as follows: — "The Committee has held six meetings during the vear ending 31st March, 1911. "The receipts in connection with the working of the school, including a balance of CM) os Id from last year, amounted to £44 12s 3d, and the expenditure to .£2B os 10d, leaving a credit balance at Savings Bank of £l(s fis sd. "A concert in aid of the school.prize fund was held on 20th October, the proceeds of which amounted to £l3 ]Bs J)d, including a balance from last vear of £1 1.35. Of this sum £1 17s 9d was spent in prize books for the children, .CI los Gd for picnic prizes, £3 Is for refreshments at concert, £3 Is 6d for concert expenses, and £1 for school library, leaving a balance of £3 3s cash on band. "The school was inspected by Inspector Richardson, who reported most favorably on the work 'done by Miss Brooine. "The school picnic was held on 27th December on Mr Gemmell's farm. _ "Religious instruction has been given on one afternoon in every week by Rev. J. C. Raterson." MORTEN. The annual meeting of householders was held in the Morvcn School on Monday night, when there were-about 15 present. The annnal report and the balance-sheet was read and adopted. The balance-sheet showed the receipts for the year as £62 18s 2d and the expenditure at £62 4s- Id, leaving a-small credit balance of 14s Id. Hearty votes

of thanks were passed to the- outgoing Committee, who had carried out their work in a very able manner, and to the teachers, Mr Clarke, Miss Smart, and Mr Connell, for the able- manner in which the school had been conducted, ns shown by the reports and examinations.

An urgent necessity is more accommodation for the scholars, and it is hoped that the new Committee will keep on agitating until reasonable buildings are provided. KAKANUI. Considering the state cf the weather, there was a very fair attendance at the annual meeting of householders. Mr George Bruce was elected Chairman, and the following report was read: — "Your Committee have much pleasure in submitting the following report:—At their first meeting your Committee reelected Messrs George Bruce and H. Eddington Chairman and Secretary respectively. Ten meetings were held during the year, and were well attended bv members. AH necessary work was carried out, and repairs effected to the

A vote of thanks was accorded to the teachers for their assistance at the concert, as they had gone to a lot of trouble in preparing the. children for their various perfori'nances. A vote of thanks was also, accorded those members of the Committee- who supplied teams and assisted in the .gravelling of tluj school grounds, and... .also for cleamiig and sweeping, the school walls. The annual inspection.of the school was held in September* and on October 29th. the Inspectors' : report was laid before the Committee. The ' report showed that staisfa'ctory work had been done during •the yearl The condition of the school and grounds was favorably mentioned, also needlework and gardening. A miniature target was procured by the and- the boys can now do their shooting on the school grounds. This target has all the requirements t.f an ordinary rifle range, and is perfectly safe. The Education Board notified the Committee ' that it had taken out a policy insuring against accident all persons engaged to do cleaning and casual work at the school. Your Committee have also to report that on their application the Board has decided to effect the following repairs to school and buildings: New floors and furniture for infant room, repairs to ventilators, cutting in two of desks in master's room, repairs to wash-house and tank stand, and providing a bath for teacher's residence, repairs, ete., to be effected as soon as convenient. Your Committee have worked in harmony during the year, and have done their utmost for the progress of the school, and to get the school and grounds in n. sound and healthy condition/^ After the adoption of- the report and balance-sheet the following gentlemen were elected for the ensuing year, Messrs Bruce, Oats, Sounriess, R. Elder, James Minty, Lawrence, and Eddington. On the motion of Mr J. Leen, a vote of thanks to the teachers for their good work during the year was carried unanimously, and one was also carried thanking the retiring Committee. A motion in favor of a common scheme of promotion for teachers was, after a short discussion, carried. , TAWAL

The annual meeting of householders took place on Monday' evening, when there was a good ■ attendance. \ Mr M. Cohnell was voted to the chair. He thanked the meeting for voting him to the chair, and congratulated the Committee on having been successful in obtaining such a good and efficient teacher in Mr M'Murtrie. —(Applause.) He called upon Mr Davidson (secretary) to read the minutes of the last annual meeting, and Mr Wright (chairman) the balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance of £2 2s 10c! in the bank. The following nominations were received: Messrs']?. Connell, M. Connell, H. Davidson, P. Henry, J. Henry, and Mr Harney, junr. These being the only nominations, the chairman declared them elected. The Committee will have to appoint the seventh member. The meeting concluded with a hearty vote of thanks to the Chairman. The new Committee then met, and elected Mr M. Connell chairman, Mr H. Davidson secretary, "and Mr M. Harney, junr. treasurer.

ISLAND CLIFF. The annual meeting of householders took place in the Schoolroom, Island Cliff, on Monday evening last, 24th inst., when six householders put in an appearance. Previous to the election of a new Committee, the Dominion scheme for the promotion of teachers was thoroughly discussed by all householders present, with the result that the scheme was favorably considered. On the balance-sheet being read it was found that the new Committee, had a credit balance of £4 7s 3d to commence the ensuing year with. The following officers were elected at an after-meet-ing: Mr John Henderson (chairman), Mr John Duff (treasurer), A. H. Maekay (secretary), and Messrs Wni. Howdeii and Gardiner.
