SPEEDING AN UNWELCOME GUEST.

(Per Phess Association.) Christchurch, March 17. A bailiff's officer who went to G'haney's, near Kaiapoi early this evening to take possession of the goods and chattels of a resident there, appears to liavo had a highly unpleasant experience. The details are meagre, but it appears that when the bailiff appeared on the scene and made his business known he was attacked furiously by the man, whose goods lie was about to distrain, who, armed with a fork, struck him oil tho head, inflicting what is reported to be. a nasty wound. The bailiff was taken to a storekeeper's shop, and was .found to have been someseriously knocked about. Information received from Belfast was to the effect that he had been taken to the Christchurch Hospital, but 4iad not arrived at the time of telegraphing:
