Mile Championship Longworth 1, Hardwick 2, Springfield 3. The only starters. Hardwick led for 660 yards, when Longworth took, charge, was never headed, and won comfortably by ten yards. Time, 25min 37 4-ssec. WELLINGTON RACES.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, January 21: The first day of the summer meeting opened in fine weather. There was a good attendance. The going was fast. Twenty-nine bookmakers were licensed and the sum of £1565 10s passed through the totalisator compared with £2495 for the first day of the summer meeting last year. His Excellency the Governor and the Premier attended the meeting. Results: Nursery Handicap, of 250 sovs; four furlongs.—Mr Highden's Bronze, 8.0 (A. Olliver), 1; Mr Buick's Rangiatua, 7.4, 2; Hon. J. D. Ormond's ;Bootle, 8.13, 3. Also started: Lambton 7.12, St. Petersburg 7.12, Golden Ball 7.12, Byron 7.8, Counterfeit 7.9, Sinapis 7.6, Khamsin 7.3, and Aloha 6.12. Rangiatua took the lead at the start, and was supplanted "by Bronze in front of the people's stand, Counterfeit, "Byron, and Bootle being all bunched, with all the rest of the field straggling. Bronze got home by a length and a-half. Time, 49 3-ssec. *

Wellington Cup, of 750 sovs; one mile and a-half. —Mr Greenwood's Miss Mischief, 7.13 (H. Gray), 1; Mr Hall's Iranui, 8.4, 2; Mr Ames' Merrivonia, 8.1, 3. Also started: Los Angelos 9.0, Goldfinder 7.13, Lady Reina 6.7, Mendip 7.3, Parable-7.2, and Vi-6.13. Vi started off at the jump, and led for a mile, when Meudip ,took charge. Iranui led into the straight, but was beaten just on the post by Mr Greenwood's mare. Time, 2min 34 2-osec. . Trial Plate, of 150 sovs; seven furlongs.—Mr Tinker's Colleen Mary, 7.4 (L. Traill), 1; Mr Watt's Winning Post, 7.4, 2; Sir G. Clifford's True Knight, 7.7, 3. Also started: Peacemaker 8.0, Epsom Downs 8.0, Mira 7.7, Kilosteri 7.7, Julian 7.4, Directoire 7.4, Ahuapai 7.4, and Izdubar 7.4. Winning Post led tor the greater part of the race, but Coilf.cn Mary got the lead on her near fhe finish, and won easily. Time, Imm 'J't l-sih see.

Gipsy Belle had the race in hand from the start to the finish, and won by a lensrth.
