Mr F. Lund, cross-examined at the Waratali enquiry, said Captain Ilberv never seriously complained that tlie Waratali was less stable than the Geelong. .t- . * ' Counsel: Then your letters to the builders were bluff in order to-press forward a settlement of demurrage P Witness replied they were not serious letters. He said the gravity of the disaster had greatly affected his father's health.
Five passengers gave evidence to the effect that they were alarmed at the vessel's toplieaviness and discussed tho matter with officers. Another passenger said he had never sailed in a safer vessel.
The hearing was adjourned till January 9.
