ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

(Per Press Association.) New Plymouth, December 5. At an inquest to-day on a man named l Wood, found dead in the police cells on Saturday morning, it was shown that deceased was arrested on Friday night for drunkenness, and then had a small cut over the eye, probably as the result of a fall. A post mortem revealed a quantity of blood under the skull. There was a growth on the left side of the brain, which was very rough all round, and it is concluded that the blow above the eye had thrown the brain against the growth and lacerated an artery, causing compression of blood on the brain, resulting practically .in apoplexy. The verdict was accordingly. Auckland, December 5. "Archie Myers, aged 32, a married man,. living at. Devonport, died this morning after taking a seidlitz powder. After-, swallowing'the powder Myers said it was bitter, and symptoms of strychnine poisoning ensued, A doctor attended Myers, who died two hours later. Ashburton, December 5. This afternoon a seven-year-old. daughter of Arthur Stewart, of Hinds, .was accidentally run over by an iron roller on which, she had been riding, .and was killed-jnstantaneously.
