A SPLENDID JUBILEE.
(Per Press Association.) j Wellington, December 4: There was a very large gathering -at the Town Hall last evening to : do hoiior to Mother Mary Joseph Aubert, the occasion being a public recongition of the fact that Mother Aubert has just concluded 50 years work amongst the sick and suffering of New Zealand: His Excellency the Governor handed Mother Aubert a cheque for over £2OO, subscribed by sympathisers' all over the Dominion. Lord Islington paid a high tribute to the splendid service Mother Aubert had rendered to her fellow creatures. It required'' no panegyric from him, he said, that work, for it stood out itself as a monument of sustained energy in the cause of lraman solicitude. Mother Aubert, 'who personally received' the gift, met with aii enthusiastic reception. Dr Izard returned thanks on her behalf. The Rev. van Staveren, Jewish Rabbi, also eulogised ; Mother Aubert's noble work, and on her behalf announced' that the money just presented would be applied to adding a wing to the Home of Compassion at Island Bay for convalescent children of all creeds.
