CRAFT CHARGES.
(Per Press Association ) Wellington, November 9. The Committee of the Lower House proceeded with the chaigcs against Mi Kaihau of leceiving a commission for the sale of the Te Akau Black and ic,ceiving payments for a petition. Mr Myers intimated that there were six separate charges le the petitions, and he would confine his case' to these. i Mr Kensington, the Undei-Sccretaiy for Lands, detailed the negotiations for the purchase of the Te Akau Block in January, 1007. Mr Carroll sent v-itnccs a nopv of the deed between the natives and Mi Kaihau, lcquostmg the Government to i).iv hnn 10 pei cent, puichasc mono-* Both Mi Can oil and witness declined Lo ackiiowledge this deed, and witness notified the land pui chase officers that negotiations weie not to be conducted through Mr Kaihau, as the native owneis objected to his piesence in the mattei. The money for the purchase was naid to the vendors direct Mr Kaihau" had no standing in the transaction between the Department and the natives.
The Committee, after deciding not tb accept anj further charges after Friday,'the sitting adjourned.
