CHRISTCHTJRCH MARKETS

(Per Press Association.} Christclnirch. October 25,

There is nothing fresh to report in •connection, with the local gram market. Wheat is practically unsaleable, and oats are wanted, but are not forthcoming. The only move is in ryegrass, which the continued dry weather has caused to advance.

The shortage 111 feed will prevent the usual area in Canterbury being closed up for seed, and the coming season's crop is likelv to be a very short one. The dry weather has, however, had the effect of checking the demand for spring sowing, but this will have to be made up later on. Potatoes are now in very small com- i pass, and the price has gone up to £8 15s at country stations. An Australian consignment was expected at- Lyttelton last week, but it did not come to hand. MEAT MARKET. -Messrs Gilbert, Anderson and Co. . report as follows oil the I-lome maiket, under date London, September, 15The volume of trade on. the market continues large. Supplies of Homer grown meat have been abundant with prices barely maintained. Large shipments of chilled: beef continue, and the price of all beef is low. Forequarters of chilled beef have been selling as low as 2Jd and hindquarters 3J-d. Shorter supplies of frozen meat, and with very light shipments to arrive prices have advanced, and prospects are good. Fear is expressed that stocks of frozen mutton and lamb will not be sufficient to carry on the trade, and that prices for a short time will go high. The week Has seen an advance in all frozen mutton and lamb, with the exception of the Plate, which is still being sold at ■low 'prices. New Zealand mutton is fully Jd higher, lamb from.Jd to id. 'Australian supplies are exhausted. •Frozen beef, is low m sympathy with chilled, but prices are firmer. Smitlifield market prices.
