PALMERSTON NOTES.

On Saturday last Mr It. M'Kenzio, the President of the A. and P. Association, occupied the chair at a wellattended meeting of the Show Committee. Letters from several gentlemen resident outside, the district consenting to act as judges were received. Two applicants were granted space for side shows. A communication from the Railway Department intimated that for the purpose of travelling to the show the regulation prohibiting male and female cattle being accommodated in the same wagon would be suspended provided that the beasts were securely haltered and tied. , The secretary and treasurer were instructed to confer with the railway authorities with a- view to procure the running of excursion trains from; Dunedin' and Oamaru on sliow day. The show, which will ,be held on tne 2nd day of .December, bids fair to be a most successful exposition _of the stock and produce of the district. The banners won in this year's competitions by the Palmerston Football Club's Ist and 2nd grade fifteens were presented at a social gathering held in. the Oddfellows' Hall on Wednesday evening last. Mr Crisp occupied . the chair and over 100 players and patrons were seated at the social board. The Mayor (Mr R. Little) presented the banners to the captains of the successful teams. He-complimented the winners and spoke of the benefits to young men by activity in athletics. The toasts were frequent but appropriate, and-many songs and recitations ! helped out the evening. The first-grade banner was presented by the O.R.F.TJ. to the Waihemo-Waikouaiti Association in 1906. It has been won once by the Waikouaiti Cub and four times by the Palmerston Club. Mr E. H. Clark, | M.P., presented the 2nd grade banner to the Association at the beginning of the past season: • On Wednesday evening the Presbyterian Bible Class Society closed its session with a social. The Rev. Jas. Clarke presided. Numerous songs and recitations were forthcoming, but the items of the evening were the anthems rendered by the choir. Supper was provided by the ladies at the close of a most enjoyable evening. Twenty-seven members are this session attending the lectures being given byDr Howden for the Palmerston division of the St. John Ambulance Association;The annual re-examination and re- < inspection was held on Thursday evening last, and the annual examination will take place in November.
