' The Rev. Dr. Frew, St. Niniaivs, Stirling, "father" of all the Churches in Scotland, died on August'29th. .He had. reached the age of 98, and was in the 76th year-of his ministry at St. Ninian's. Beceascd was a widower, his wife having died about forty years ago. He had no family. The Rev. Robert Frew, D.D., who was a son of the Rev. Forrest Frew, minister of Ceres, Fifeshire. was licensed by the Relief Presbytery of Perth -in June, 1885, and in the same year he received a call from the St. Ninian's congregation, • which lie accepted, his ordination as assistant and successor to tnelate Rev. James Logan'taking niacc on'lNovember 25th. Three years later Mr Logan was laid aside from duty, aiid the burden of the whole work devolved

on - the. young minister, who, devoted heart and strength to the interests and welfare of a large congregation. Keeping - np his studies, he produced au edition of Barnes' Notes on the Old and New Testaments, which in 1856 gained him .the honor of Doctor of Divinity from his alma-mater, the University of ■St. Andrews. Dr Frew's pulpit dis-. • courses .were always distinguished by high scholarship,' as well as by clear diction. Tn Patristic theology, the reverend doctor -was particularly welL learned. .In. _*lß6t)-the seipi-jubilee of Dr. Frew was appropriately .marked, and 111 1868 he. received the --highest, honor the United i Presbyterian Church-could bestow, that of Moderator of the Synod. On entering -the 50th year of his .ministry; the reverend doctor was. entertained to a public dinner, and. at a congregational soiree the same evening he was presented with a 'silver salver and-a cheque for £I2OO. Two equally interesting ceremonies attended Dr. , Frew's attainment of the 60th and 70th. ' year of his ministry. ITEMS. ' The late Dr Parker, of the- City rLcmple, began his ministerial work at Eanbury, and a site has just been secured there for the erection of a Parker Memorial Institute as a tribute to his : work as author and preacher. In the churchyard at Adding ton, near Croydon, lie buried five Archbishops of Canterbury—Manners . Sutton, Howley, Sumner, Longley, and Tait.
