DITNEDIN MARKETS

(Otago Daily Times)

Here in 2s T ew Zealand there is practically nothing to report. Millers have been able to keep ahead of the market, and have supplies sufficient to see them through for some hltlc time yet. Thev are therefore not pushing liusinoss oil the market, and-tilings are - somewhat quiet. At the same time, there is one line which will attract them, and that is good velvet at a reasonable price. Shippers are picking up odd lots for export business, as tliere is still a little freight offering owing to the wool not coming forward yet. The limit for closing down against' wheat has therefore been ex> tended somewhat,' and shippers are engaged in a little business. Last week's rates still hold.

There is a good demand for offal, particularly bran, fight throughout the Ddmuiionf There is a shortage of supplyin this respect, partly due.lto the fact that many mills ..'are only working one shift owing to this being slack season, while the demand is made a little heavier by such a.dry season having obtained-.

The tariff of the Flourmillers' Association tor flour and other Lines is as follow - Floui • Sacks, £9 os 1001b £9 15s; 501b. bags, £lO, 251b bags, £lO os Oatmeal, £ll 10s pei toii. Peail . barley -Cl3 DOs per ton Bran, £4 per ton Pollard, £o per ton The oat position still shows some inquiry, but it is quieter than last week, owing, it is thought, to the higher price as'ced. Theie lias been a small coastal trade done to the North Island, but m -the meantrmeAuckland has the Rona unloading there, and has thus ceased her immediate demands The farmers still •rhold their position very tightly, and i efuso to loose their holdings. It is ad- , vised that Bluff has m store some-80,000 sacks of oats, while it is estimated that in the Southland district -there is available 100,000 sacks. The firmness, therefore, is laigely artificial, and by no means due to any'shortage of oats 1 rices are piactieally at last week's figures with perhaps a fraction to the firm side. A grade Gartons may bo quoted at 2s lid to 2s 2d, f.o.b si • B grade at 2s 3d. A grade spai rowbil'ls «J4 aud B S rade sparrowbills at » 2s OJa. TIMARU MARKETS. (Timaru Herald.') The oat market is a. good deal-firmer than, it w as a week ago. >, This, is attn birred \to the dry weather, which, in some parts has brought about' a,shortage cf feeti, and cieated a'fcai that the new season's crop may.not come up to earliei anticipations. Pilces 'have hardened in /Southland as well as in Cantei"buiy. Ton "days ago'ls B}d per bushel was being paid foi oats winch to-day aie woith Is lOd. There is not a great quantity of oats left m South Canterbury now. Pnme Duns and Gaitons are quoted to-day at Is lOd, dehveied Timaru, Danish'ld less, but theie are none of "this description offering. During the. past month about 16,000 sacks of oats have been shipped Home from the Bluff. Jt was thought "when the Corinthic "/as 'at Timaru last week" that she would be the last boat for the season oirwhich wheat could be shipped Home at the los freight, but the~Kaikoun v is. to be at Timaru about the" first/week of November to take at least 10,000 sacks at the .lowered, sfrcight.x *Tbe wheatmarket has not firmed*since last lepoiting on it, and merchants a~ie not very anxious "to buy as'the is now only a months oiL- " Prime Tuscan and a-edchaff are quoted, at 3s 3d to 3s 6d, according .-to quality, and velvet delivered,.
