SPORTS MEETING AT OMARAMA.

The Omarama athletic meeting was held on Wednesday last. <■ Although the morning broke wet and stormy, the attendance was highly, satisfactory. The entries fori the 12 events totalled 135, and an • exceptionalljjlarge propoi Lion of ;the '-entrants cams''to tlieir marks. A novel race, "The Rabbiters," caused a good deal of merriment, and altogether as an initial , meeting the Omarama sports were highly satisfactory. The committee of . the Sports Club particularly desire to, express their appreciation of the services rendered by the handicappers, Messis T. A.Munro and D. M'Culloch. : The'close finishes, including two dead heats testifying to tlieir ability. The results are as follows: —

lo Yards Stepping Competition— Shand 1, Sinclair 2. Previous to the sports a shooting match was held (clay, birds), being a sweepstake of 10s. Of the special prizes, a gold-mounted pipe (presented bv Mr Hood, Oamaru) was won by Mr H. Collins, and a gold medal (presented by Mr H. B. Gilmour) was won by Mr A. Collins, who also won the sweepstake.
