THE LIQUOR FIGHT.

Received October 10, at 9.20 p.m. Sydney, October 10. In the fight against no-license-'the; statement was circulated that the police inspectors oft-New Zealand had adversely reported on no-license., With a view to'rebutting this the New South Wales; Alliance obtained from- Dr. Findlay, Minister of Justice, a statement that, with one exception, all the inspectors' reports were substantially in favor of no-license from the point of view of law and order. ■■■■,. ; ■ ■

The Alliance also obtained from the Mayors of Oarnaru, Grey Lyun, and Christchurch strong rebuttals of the statement by Mr Day, Magistrate at Timaru, that more temptations to drink existed in no-license districts and that liquor was kept in every home. Reports from some of: the country districts state that the publicans arc getting shaky over the result of the no-license vote. On the whole, however, the Liquor psrty is very hopeful of putting up a stiff fight all along the line. .

The" No-license party is making use of large display advertisements of Dr Findlay's cable regarding the police inspectors' report and a cable signed by- eight-members of the Dominion Parliament representing no-license districts, declaring that no-license had resulted in a marked decrease in the consumption of liquor in their districts and had been generally beneficial to the community.
