The House of Representatives has finished the recommittal stage of the Land Tax Bill, and the third reading is fixed for Tuesday. The Senate has made good progress with the Navigation Bill in CommitA definite absentee in the Land Tax Bill is made/to mean a person who does not reside in Australia and a person who is absent half a year. The, Navigation Bill amendment to the clause providing for 180 cubic feet space for officers on ships-registered in Australia or employed in the coast trade .was rejected. A clause was carried that notice be. given in the Naval Bill em-powering-the Government to create and'build a navy and establish shipbuilding vards, docks, and depots, and deal with" discipline of the naval lorces and raise a naval force.
