"ALADDIN."

TO-MORROW NIGHT. Mr J. C. Williamson's Pantomime Company, .which numbers over 150 travelling members, will stage for the first and only time in Oamaru to-mor-row (Saturday! night the stupendous j pantomimic extravaganza "Aladdin." j The scenery and effects for the produc- ! tion had already been sent on ahead in i charge of a stall' of mechanics and cleeI tricians, so that everything is already ! prepared for the scenery and lighting j rehearsal, which will take place this : afternoon, and to-morrow night's perI formanee should be a particularly j smooth one. '•Mother Goose," 'Hump- [ ty-Dumpty," and 'Mack and Jill" -were | each declared to be the crowning suc- ! cess of pantomime productions, and ■ now critics in Sydney and Melbourne . have almost unanimously declared that , in ••Aladdin" Mr Williamson has gone j one better than ever before. Of course I this sounds an amazing statement to j those who witnessed performances of i previous pantomimes, but when it is I considered that Mr Williamson. Mr | Coventry (the producer), and Mr Povah I (the electrician - ) each made separate I tours through England and America in search of novelties, artists, and effects, lliis statement can readily be. understood. Anyhow these reports have had the effect of considerably adding to the interest which is generally taken in the rroduction of spectacular plays, and hence the splendid booking. The company is numerically the strongest that ■ has ever appeared,in whilst n glance at the names of the artists is sufficient to inform playgoers that never before lias a better all-round combination of comedians, singers, dancers, or pantomimists ever appeared in NewZealand. The expenses in sending such a big organisation to New Zealand must be enormous, and it is difficult to understand how the rent-tire can nay, as it is stated that iJie steamer fares alone come to over £2OOO. The doors will be opened at 6.45 p.m., and the performance begins at half-past'seven.
