To the Editor. Sir, — I wriLe as a motorist, who wishes, with I hope all other motorists, to use the Kind's Highway with as little inconvenience t:> horse-drawn vehicles. pedestrians, and cyclists as possible. There is a law in most countries, though it may he unwritten, thai it' a driver of a horse vehicle is afraid his horse or horses will not pass an approaching motor without trouble he holds up his hand, and the motorist immediately brings his machine to f. slow pace until he passes. I offer this as a suggestion to those who use the roads, and I think if this were respected il would be a great help to motorists and greater safety to horse-drawn veliieles. While writing on this sirbjcc.t, I am sometimes doubtful if all those who use the roads really understand the "rule of the road"' ; indeed I am certain that sonic of them do not, and by their ignorance are a danger to all vehicles. A case actually happend not a hundred miles from Oamaru, where two traps were meeting each other, the one going downhill kept to his left side, while the trap coming up kept to his right: the trap going down was on tin l edge of the road, but still the Other trap tried to drive him over the bank. The traps met and their wheels were locked, but here is the strange part : the driver of the trap coming up the hill said, "J will teach you your right side of the road." This I hope is an isolated ease. Let motorist and horse driver use his best judgment not to interfere with the liberty and safety of the other. These are the sentiments of all lovers of motoring, and of those who love the animal that lias served so lang and faithfully the needs of the human race. — I am, etc.. CONSIDERATION.
