SOCIAL AT ST. PAUL'S.

PRESENTATIONS TO MESSRS A ITEDLEY AND J. MARTIN. -

The social organised by the members of St Paul's congregation took place in Wear Street Hall last evening, and was attended and thoroughly enjoyed —a satisfactory result due mainly to the self-sacrificing efforts ot the members of tlic Ladies' Guild, to whom were entrusted the arranging ot the details. The musical portion or the programme was contributed to -j> Misses Will and Lindsay (duet). Mr Dale (solo and a selection on the cello), Mr B. J. Meldrum (violin selection), Mr Edgar Randal (pianoforte selection), and by the choir, the latter nicely rendering several choruses. Two presentations having an.- iniporI tant bearing on the history of St. Paul's were made during the evening, the recipients being Mr Allan Heclle,\ for 34 vears secretary, and Mr Jas. Martin, treasurer for 26 years. . The Rev. R. J. Porter, referring to •church records covering a period ot -w years, expressed pleasure that Jlktc were present that evening two ot the oldest office-bearers —Messrs J. H. -y I '' gall and Henry Allan. Speaking or Mi Hedlev and Sir Martin, Mr Porter said they had served the Church long a; secretarv and treasurer respectively and a 'suggestion that their service,' should be recognised in a tangible forn had been taken up with enthusiasm He personallv thanked the gentlemei named for their help during the time he had been in Oamarn. Appreciatory references to the goo< work accomplished by Messrs HoaW'.' and Martin were made by j\Tr J. H Milligau and Mr J. D. Grant. Mrs M'Farlane, on behalf of the con gregation, then presented Mr Hcdlc and Mr Martin each with a silver l»: service aud silver tray. Mr Hedlev present bore the inscription: "Mr Allai Hedlev, from the members of St. Paul i Church in recognition of 34 years' ser vice as secretary. Oamarn, 15/9/10.
