RECORD KAURI GUM FIND.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, August 23. What is probably the largest piece of kauri gum yet brought to light was unearthed by jVTt L. Carl© a lew days ago. The specimen, which was some 14ft below the surface of tlie ground, weighed 1881b, and it required the strength of three men to haul it out of its resting place. When it was obtained it weighed nearly two hundredweight, but on being cleaned and scraped its weight was reduced to that stated. It is stated that the largest piece of gum previously seen was the specimen exhibited at tiie last Auckland Exhibition by Mr Patterson, weighing 1211b.
