OAMARU HARBOR.

To the Editor.

gi r) —lt was with feelings of deep interest that I read in your esteemed paper the other evening the report ol the Tokarahi meeting. Dear me, what a ltosie time they had to be sure. "With Mr Lindlcv Murray in the chair, Mr Louis Dasler in his best iorm, and Mr James Hore bringing up the pack, the inhabitants of that up-to-date and thriving district were treated to something out of the common. So long as we have such men to defend our rights, there is no chance of the Harbor Board saddling us with any more taxes than what are absolutely necessary. Mr Kose may rest assured that; even in his absence matters relating to our harbor arc being attended to, and when, on his return, he is made aware ol how his pet hobby of blocking I lie progress of the Harbor Hoard business has -been taken up and championed by this brilliant understudy. Mr Dasler, his heart will be greatly rejoiced. Now, Sir, J. do not.presume to olter you advice, but with kind permission would like to make, the following suggestions. l( you can spare, a lew minutes of vour valuable time, would vou kindlv devote same for the benefit of these Tokarahi worthies. I'ossiblv vou could suggest in a nice sort of way that tliey would be better employed by milking their cows and counting' their flocks, and leave such knotty problems to those who are better able to grapple with them. A fair thing is a fair thinn, but when they question, not onlv the integrity and ability of the Harbor' Hoard Chairman, but also the banker of the Harbor Board, and the accuracy of your reporter, we think it is time to draw the line. A word in season would not be amiss, and hoping I have not taken up too much of your valuable space,—l am, etc., KODNEY STONE. Oamaru, August 16th. [AVe have made slight alteration lo the above so that no one's susceptibilities may be hurt.—Ed. O.M.]
