ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the North Otnco Joekev Club was held m tie A M.P. Buildings this afternoon. Ibe attendance, though fair, was not quite so Large as usual owing possibly to tlie inclement weather. Mr J. .UurkU > ■ president, occupied tho eliatr. Apologies for abscnco were received from Messrs W. Gardiner, jnn., and Iv. C. Gillies. . . Tlio annual report (previously published) was taken as read, and the secretary read tho balance-sheet. Tho President, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said it was fitting that he should make :i few explanatory remarks regarding tho extraordinary expenditure. Had it not heen for such extraordinary expenditure it would have been possible to show a much larger credit balance. Ho considered tlio additional expenditure was warranted. Tho sum ol .Ci - 6s 5d had been spent on improvements to tho course and plough gallop, and tho proof that this money was well spent was tho fact that never belore on tho Oamaru course had such last times been put up us was the ease on the occasion of last meeting. Other items were: New springs for starting machine, £7 15s 2d; new grubber, £lo 7s 3d; Familton Bros., contract, £2B 13s; and architect, £l3 19s. All tho items wero of a lion-recurring character, and the improvements effected would carry the Club over for sorao years. Another item of extraordinary expenditure was tho additional Government tax of £6B 6s 9d, bringing the total VP to over £2OO. This accounted for the small credit balance as compared with last year. Ho congratulated tlio Club ou the state of the finances, and formally moved the adoption of tho report and. balance-sheet. The motion was seconded by Mr A. Potter and carried unanimously. Office-bearers were re-elected as follows President, Mr J. Buckley ; vicepresident, Mr A. Potter; Committee, Messrs W. Gardiner, jun., J. Glenn, E. A. Jones, E. P. Lee, G. Livingstone, and J. G. Nicolls. The following new members were elected: Jas. M'Cone (Tokarahi), \V. Atkinson (Oamaru), G. J. Millington (Oamaru), J. Preston (Oamaru), It. C. Hewat (Oamaru), W. M'Gregor (Oamaru), E. T. Sugden (Oamaru), H. Goodall (Oamaru), 11. Fisher (liakataramea), T. Davidson (Oamaru). Mr J. C. Nichols moved that it be a recommendation to tho Committee tliat the stake for the spring meetings be reduced. Mr Nichols pointed out that tho spring meeting had resulted in an annual loss, and lio thought the time had now arrived when tho Club should mako some profit. The motion was carried. Some discussion took place as to the admission of bookmakers to the racecourse. Mr W. Bee said he thought they should be prohibited, and N that those who wero agitating for their suppression should be strengthened bv a statement that this Club did not favor bookmakers. Tho Chairman pointed out that the power to deal with the bookmakers was beyond tlie Club. Mr Hjorring mentioned tho matter of a. 10s totalisator. Ho thought some facility should bo given apart from the bookmakers to patrons having only a few shillings for investment. Tho meeting closed with votes of thanks to tho office-bearers and chairmail.
