OAMARU RAILWAY BALL.
A social event which had been looked forward to with some anticipation was the Oamaru railway employees' annual hall, lu the past these functions have ranked high in public favor: and with an energetic committee to 'work things up there was every indication that this year's gathering would eclipse in popularity any of its predecessors. And in every respect the gathering fully justified the anticipations, none of the details that belong to the making of a successful and enjoyable ball being wanting. The function took place 'n the Druids' Hall, and was attended by railway men of every division, including several heads of departments. The committee had the hall r.ieelv decorated with Hags, and the flour was in capital order. Fully seventy-five couples occupied the floor, and with the spiritedmusic of Messrs ?d'Br.vc!» (violin), Graham (piano), and Haselwood (cornet), dancirg was maintained with vigor, so that from the grand march to "Auld Lang Svr.e" at an early hour this morninig there was not a. dull moment, 'i'li ' iluiics "f M.C'.'s were efficiently perf' -'ui by ?,l:ssrs A.
