WAIMATE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

(From Our- Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the above was held' on Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. Mr G. V. Cochrane occupied the chair. The headmaster's report drew attention to the small average attendance for the month, and l suggested referring the to the Truant Officer. The Navy League had offered"to give a lantern lecture at the school and the Committee might accept the offer. The Agricultural course had been started and for this year Mr- E. C. Studholnie had offered the use of a- piece of land for instruction purposes. The bookcase was completed and' library books would be circulated shortly. The Borough Council-wrote re sanitary service.—Letter received. The Education Board notified that the distempering of the school had been postponed for the present.—Received. "The Inspector's report on the High School was also received.

The Wellington Householders' League asked the Committee to give an expression of -opinion as to the advisability or otherwise of holding a referendum on the tfuestion of Bible-reading in schools. —-After' considerable discussion it was resolved that the letter be received. It was resolved to. grant the use of a. room in the school for the purpose of a Navy League Lecture as suggested in the headmaster's report. The sub-committee recommended that the janitor be granted an increase in salary of £5 per annum.—Report referred back to the committee for further consideration.
