Jeffries' seconds were Corbett, Attel, Choynski, Bob Armstrong, Reugene Vancourt, and Farmer Burns in the south-east corner. „.„ t» Johnson's seconds were Bill Deianey, Al Kauffman, George Gotton, Don Drury, Davo Mills, and Harry .Foley, and Johnson's timekeeper was Stanley Ketckell. Before the first round the men refused to shako hands, and after much sparring Johnson shot his left into Jeffries' face, clinched, and roughed at close quarters, the negro hitting hm man in the face. This was a tamo round, and honors were even. In the second round Jeffries held on to Johnson, clouting his right into his face, and then Jeffries sent his right into the negro's stomach, Johnson retaliating with two upper outs. Jeffries leaned in and clinched. In the third round Johnson landed his right on the solar x>lexus and his left twico in the face; then the men closed in, and Johnson upper-cut and blocked Jeffries. Jeffries sent the negro's head back a foot with a straight left, which made Johnson look serious. In the sixth round Johnson landed three lefts on Jeffries, drawing blood from liis check. Fighting cautiously, he followed with three uppercnts, and then Jeffries waded in, but was met with a nasty uppercut which closed his right eye. Two more lefts drew blood from Jeffries' nose, and Johnson had the best of the round.

11l the seventh round the men sparred for a. while, and then had :i lout; clinch. Johnson three times hit Jeffries on tho damaged eye and got an uppereut on to his jaw, which, was followed by Mows by Jeffries on the jaw. Johnson again, hit left and right to Jeffries' face. In the eighth, round Jeffries rushed, landing twice on the negro's fane without damage, and he also landed two body blows, so that tho honors were even. •

In the ninth round Johnson was still talkative and hit a powerful left on tht; jaw, which, made Jeffries butt and eliuch. Jeffries crouched and the negro drove a wicked left into his stomach, two jabs following to the mouth and eye, but Jeffries did not seem to mind. Johnson had the best of tho round. In the tenth round Johnson landed Jeffries twice- on the head and a clinch followed, with much infighting and wrestling. Johnson landed two lefts to the jaw, and then, amid yells, Johnson peppered Jeffries' body, out-boxing his opponent.
