OTEPOPO NOTES.

(•From o(ir Own Correspondent.) „The severe frosts of the past week have been followed by a spell of wet weather. On Friday, an easterly wind drove banks of rain clouds from the ocean and these have continued to deposit their aqueous load ever since. The wind, now from the north-east, continues to bring moisture to the already surcharged ground. On Wednesday night the Otcpopo bachelors held their annual ball; the floor, the music, the refreshments, and the management being well-nigh perfect. Everything "went merry as a marriage bell," and "youth and pleasure chased the glowing hours with flying feet." The following evening, Massey's pictures were shown to a very appreciative audience. Of late several, farms have changed hands, old faces have gone and new ones have taken their places. Among the recent arrivals in our district MiHarper (from Weston), Mr Stewart (Waikaia), and Mr Kitchen (Palmerston) should be decided acquisitions to the social and spiritual life of the district. On Saturday night Miss Gilchrist, while attending to some outside duties, fell on the slippery ground and fractured her ankle. First-aid was rendered by the Messrs Robertson, and Dr Lidd'cll attended to the suil'erer next mornI am pleased to note that' Mr Jack M'Kay, who was severely wounded in the head at Bothasberg, and who recently underwent an operation in Dunedin Hospital, has returned to his home, and is now in a fair way to recovery.
