COALMINERS IN FERMENT.
(Per Press Association^ Westport, July 4. In connection with the mining trouble at Dcnniston, it appears that the only matter now in dispute is tho payment of 245. The men arc claiming that 10s per day should havo been paid for certain work for 24 days, whereas the management state that the rate should bo 9s per day. Tho miners, at a mass meeting to-day, decided to resume work to-morrow, but will tako p. ballot on Wednesday whether or not a strike be resorted to. To-day's interruption in tho work at the mine represents a loss of £3OO in wages. At the conclusion of the mass meeting the' question was raised of urging the Government to appoint' John Foster, formerly a president of tho union, to the Upper House, but the meeting decided by two hundred votes to five to take no action.
