WAIMATE PRIMITIVE METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) \ The anniversary services in connection with the above were held on Sunday, 22nd, when the Rev. J. Harris preached to very good congregations. In the evening Mr Harris spoke from Matthew 2, and 13th verse, and-during' a well-balanced discourse, emphasised the inherent divinity of childhood' against which the destroying Herods .if gambling, impurity, obscene literature, drink, and other vices were continually waging war, thus casting on the Church, the State, and the Individual the duty of protecting the spiritual, physical, and moral welfare.of the children, thereby ensuring the continued moral and spiritual pre-eminence of the nation by so training the children of to-day that the adults of to-morrow may not be wanting. "While congratulating New Zealand as being in advance of the older country in many matters pertaining to the welfare of the children and youth of the country, the preacher made it clear that in his opinion the State should discontinue the legalising of totalisator gambling. The singing was a pleasing feature of the services, Mr A. Tregoning having a very good choir under his baton. A social and prize distribution will be held on Thursday at 7.30 p.m.
