Mr and Mrs Carrad leave Oamaru 011 Thursday. We regret to record the death ai Xapier to-day of Mr Thomas for many years manager of the Corriedale Estate. Mr M'Dnnald was one ot the district's best sheep authorities and an excellent general fanner, but it was his sterling character that made him so popular among his fellows despite his quiet nature. Mr M'Donald retired on the. resumption of C'orriedale by the Government, and. like all who have long kept their shoulders in the collar, he found idleness irksome. Within "the past fortnight he left Oama.ru for Napier, to spend some time with relatives 'there, and his friends at that time had 110 suspicion that his end was so near.

A Press Association message from Sydney states that Sir James if ills- has departed in the Manuka to visit England.
