TECHNICAL CLASSES ASSOCIATION.

There was not a large attendance al the annual meeting of the Technical Classes Association, which was held last evening at the school building. Air Scoon presided. The annual report was read by "the Secretary (Mr. A. A. Al'Kinnoii) as follows :

"The Managers have the pleasure to report that the year, although not realising their expectations in regard to the number of students in attendance, was in other respects very satisfactory. ' . "The'" number of students enrolled was 335, divided into 14 classes, and the examinations disclosed evidence of sound teaching, and a desire, on the part of those attending, to improve their knowledge. The school was inspected during the year by Air E. C. lsa'ac, Inspector of Technical Education, to whom the thanks of the Association for valued suggestions, are, due. The Managers "desire to thank the various public bodies for their contributions, and the Press for their assistance in advertising the aims and objects ol the Association..

"During the 1 ensuing session it is hoped that those who have gained proficiency certificates and have been Tillable to attend a. secondary school, will fake the opportunity to obtain the advantages offered by attending the Association's classes. In this connection, the Managers are pleased to state that they have enlisted the sympathy of the North Otago Employers' Association, and the Executive is taking steps to bring under the notice of employees the benefits accruing from attendance at the school." The ' balance-sheet showed the Association to be in a sound position financially. The receipts for the year amounted to £616 6s, including a Government grant of £250 towards additions to the building. The chief items of the balance were: Government subsidies, £73 17s Id; Government subsidj on voluntary contributions, £73 3s; voluntary contributions, £72 3s. The chief items on the-expenditure side, wore '—Building additions, £250; instructors' salaries, £164 lis 6d; office expenses, including salaries, etc., £lO5 8s 7d.

On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Air Searle, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. Afessrs J. Al. Brown, J. Scoon, and T. Williamson were reappointed Aianagers to represent the subscribers. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to 'the Chairman. ,

After the subscribers' a meeting of the managers was held. Air Scoon was re-elected Chairman and Treasurer, and the Chairman, "Air Brown and the Superintendent were appointed a Standing Committee. The Secretary stated that the number of pupils enrolled so far was in advance of the number for the two previous years, and as pupils would join up to the time of opening the various classes, the opening term promised to be highly successful. The Secretary also "reported that a gold medal had been donated By the Employers' Association to be awarded to the boy or girl who enrols the greatest number of pupils complying with conditions during the year.
