With a view to avoiding a tariff war with Canada. tlio Chairman of the "United States House Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, who recently conferred with Mr Taft, will soon introduce a Bill to encourage and promote commerce between the United States and the Dominion. Ho recommends postponing the application of the maximum tariff until 1911. He will also admit Canadian wood pulp for printing papers on condition th.it no restriction is imposed on its export from the Dominion.' London, November 29. Tlio Times' New York correspondent says the proposal indicates a desire to conciliate Canada. Tho question is occupying the serious attention of the Tariff Board, which will possibly visit Canada for the purpose of investigation.
