Bowling analysis.—Laver, 1 wicket for 41 runs; Cotter, 0 for 62; O'Connor, 0 for 1G; Armstrong, 0 for 38; Macartney, 0 for 14. The weather wi's unsettled, but the wicket remained fast.

The attendance was poor. Tarrant and Foster commenced steadily and carried the total to 157 before a separation came. Macartney dismissing Foster by a brilliant catch at long-on. He batted 145 minutes and played fine all-round cricket. He hit a fiver and seven fourers.

Hardstaff succeeded and both played a steady and defensive game, and were still together at the luncheon adjournment.

Tarrant was 115 minutes compiling

Rain set in during the adjournment and prevented further play.
