(Per Press Association.) FLOODS IN THE NORTH. (Per Press Association.) Dargaville, September 2. There has been a very heavy rainfall during the last few days, which has done considerable damage m Northern Wairoa. Last night Dargaville township was inundated by "water to tue depth of several inches, the river having overflowed its banks. Several bigness firms suffered heavy losses b\ damage to goods, the loss of i Adams draper, running into over £IOO. out the losses at Dargaville are nothing comoared to those occasioned m the lower reaches of the river, especially at Ranpo, where cattle have been standing on flats for several days w-itn water np to their bellies and not a blade of grass to be seen. The matter is verv serious, as hundreds of acres arc submerged and a number of settlers will probably be ruined as a result of the visitation. The floods are the largest known for twenty years, lhe Government and the member for the district have been communicated with. Auckland, September 2. The rainfall in Auckland during August was 7.13 inches. The average fall for August is 4.33 inches. Dimedin, September 1. Lifht snow fell in the city overnight, and the hills are heavily coated.
