Received September 1, at 10.30 p.m. Melbourne, September 1. Hides. —There is good competition and the market is firm for all classes. DUNEDIN MARKETS. (Per Press Association.) Dunedin, September 1. Fat Cattle. —278 head were yarded, a fair proportion consisting of prime heifers and bullocks, and the balance of medium and inferior quality. Prices receded about 10s per head, except iui-lieavy-weiglit bullocks. Prime quality bullocks sold at last week's rates. Best bullocks £lO to £ll 10s, extra to £l2 7s 6d, medium £8 to £9, best heifers £7 to £S os. medium £5 to £6 10s. Sheep,—343s were yarded. The entry included 200 hoggets, sold at fallen prices. The quality of the sheep was only medium, and prices, on account of the number penned, showed a decline or from Is to 2s 6d on last week's rates. -Exporters were not operating, and most of the butchers have big supplies on hand. Best wethers 12s to 15s, extra to 16s 9d, medium 12s to 13s, inferior 10s 6d to lis (id. best ewes lis Eo 12s Gd, medium 9s to 10s. Pigs.—l2o were penned, an average yarding ot ! good quality. A fair miniber of suckers were forward, and a number of pens of porkers and baconeis. Suckers 15s to 17s 6d, slips 21s to 2_ss Gd, stares 29s to 3Ss, porkers 39s to 475, light baconeis 49s to 575, heavy baconeis to 60s. "Wheat. —Except for some demand tor seed lots the wheat market is very dull, and little business is passing, lhe onlv inquiry from millers is for prime velvet. ADDING TON MARKETS. (Per Phess Association.) Christchurch, September 1. At Addington live stock market today, owing to wet weather the entries of "stock were generally smaller than of late, and the attendance was limited. Fat cattle were dull of sale, and fat sheep, owing to the short supply, showed an improvement at the opening of the sale, but towards the close prices fell below those of last week. Store sheep also sold well, and pigs showed practically no change. Stores and dairv cattle were dull of sale. There were 304 fat cattle entered, the bulk being of good and prime quality. The sale was very dull and dragging, and a number of pens were passed. Prices ruled about equal to Is per 1001b below last week's rates. Steers made £8 6s to £ll ss, heifers £5 5s to £9 ss, and cows £4 10s to £7 17s 6d (equal to 19s 6d to 21s 6d for prime, 17s 6d to 19s for medium, and 15s to 17s for cow and inferior beef per 1001b). A small yarding of store cattle met with a poor demand, yearlings making 28s to 30s, 15 to 18-months £2 5s to £2 3s, 2-year-old steers £4 2s 6d, 3-year-old steers £5 15s to £6, and dairy cows 20s to £3 17s 6d. Dairy cows were also dull of sale at £3 tp £7 15s. There was a medium entry of all classes of pigs, and they sold at about the previous week's prices, except stores, which were a little easier.
