CH 111 STCiI U RCH MARKETS. (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, March 9. The firm tone of the London and Australian wheat markets has not been reflected locally, the probable reason being that the new wheat is not in a condition to ship, and speculators do not care to take the risk of purchasing it. A good deal of trouble is being experienced with wheat now being delivered owing to its bavin" sweated in the bags and been pressed by stacking the bags too' high. This applies more to wheat that is now going into store, as most of the wheat bought fur shipment for the North Island was selc-ted for its sounder condition. Large quantities of bath wheat and oats purchased for the north ;I re now going forward bv steamer. There is still a fair enqiiirv'for wheat, and prices remain without change. Among the sales reported are the following lines': 1400 bushels of pear! and 550 bushels of Tuscan at 3s 7d, 2100 bnsheU of Tuscan and 500 bushels of pear! at cs s£d, 1500 bushels of Hunters and 3800 hm-hels of Tuscan at 6s 6d, at country stations. Cuts are moving off a little more freely, and a fair amount of business has been done daring the last few days. Sales of ■VI-'erian have been made at Is Bd, 2800 bushels of sparrowhills at ls_3id, 10,100 biwhcls of Uartons at Is 3d, ,5500 bushels of dans at Is 2£d. 900 bushels of Tlanish at Is and 500 bushels at Is 2d, all at country stations.

There is a fair quantify of barley ofieriiv_'. but very little is changing hands. Cocksfoot growers are still asking about a halfpenny 'more than buyers are willing to give, and very little is changing hands., the prices being" equal to quotations. For onions £3 5s is being paid, and they are meeting with a fair enquiry for shipment. WAIARKKA SALKYARUS. The associated auctioneers report having held their usual weekly sale at the YYaiareka saleyards yesterday. 'This week's sale saw the commencement of the fat lamb market, but the continued dry weather of the last few weeks made the conditions rather poor for such a sale. The quality of the lambs entered was very mixed, and most of the lines required closer drafting to suit the requirements of buyers. However, good well-finished sorts met with good competition, and we think that those farmers whose lambs were well finished ami in prime condition have every reason to be satisfied with the prices obtained at auction compared with current prices given in the paddocks. Store lambs showed a marked decline in sympathy with the dry weather and the fall in fat prices of the last few weeks. Sheep.—43Co sheep and lambs were yarded, principally fat and forward lambs and stmes. The following prices were obtained : Prime lambs 12s'ld. 13s. 13s 6d. ! 13s 3d. to 14s 4d; store lambs 10s lOd. lis. lis 3d to 12s: fat wethers 15s 6d. 14s 6,1. and 13s 6d : fat ewes 9s 6d. lCs.
