,1. .Manclirstcr asked and was granled permission to alter and improve verandah.'. C. Begg and Co. were granted permission to erect it sign hoard subject to the approval of the Chairman of the liuild ing Committer. The YVaiinate County Council wrote granting the borough's application to use county roads for laying pipe in conneclion with water extension.—lt was resolved to thank the county and to refer the matter to the borough solicitor to prepare covering deed if necessary. Tenders were opened for laying water mains and boundary connections to reticulate Augustine, ISond, and Oxford streets (oiUiikle the borough) as follows:—0. Hodges and Co.—Mains £99 17s fid, short connections 16s. long connect ions 275; A. T. Kiksscll—Mains £99 17s 6d, short connections 255, long connections £2: V. K. Wilson—Mains £IOB 4s, short connections 17s 3d, long connections 27a 6d. —The lender of C. Hodges and Co. was accepted; Iho work to be done under the supervision of the Water Committee.

G. Campbell, a county resident, asked to be allowed to connect with the borough water service.—Granted; all cools to ho borne l-.y applicant and charge to be at the rate" of £2 10s per year.'" Considerable discussion took place as to who was responsible for water matter in connection with the baths, they having been emptied three times .during a fortnight. Responsibility seemed to dodge between the chairman and the acting water inspector. The question was evenfcuallv shelved for the new Council.

A statement was laid on the table sh/nvinjr the cost of all works in connection with the repairs and reinstatement of the works on account of the flood damages. Temporary repairs cost £49 4s 3d : permanent repairs at Garland's and M'Donald's, £lO3 9s 9d : new iron lluming and extending; pipe line. £67 9s 7d : new intake, £244 5s 7d:—total, £464 7s 2d. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded .Mrs Francis and his Worship the Mayor for their kindness in cntertaininp: Councillors on the occasion o£ inspecting the head works. Councillor Sanders reported that several trees in the Park were suffering from blight and it- was resolved to forward sample of growth to the Government Department for a report. It'was resolved to have all trees overhanging roads and overgrown fences in the- borough seen to. fin the .motion of Councillors Manchester and Morjjan it. was decided' to meet in future at 7.30 i>.m. Accounts amounting to .£272 18s Id were passed for payment. The Council then "went into the Domain" and finished at 9.45.
