An explosion of naphtha in a tank at Hartleyvale, Blue Mountains, injured five men, and one, named Simpson, succumbed to his injuries. Two others were taken to the hospital._ The water main at the Proprietary Mine was dynamited. The pipes, however, had not been in use for many years. . ■ The barque Jane, which left Newcastle for Mauritius on Tuesday, was towed to Newcastle to-day. During a heavy gale she was thrown on her beam ends and her cargo shifted. The vessel was in imminent peril of sinking by every 6ea that struck her. The foretopmast was cat away, carrying with it the top-gallant mast. The weather moderating, the crew trimmed the car-o and got the vessel more ' upright. Then a tug picked her up.
