These gentlemen issued a •warrant for the arrest of their quondam customer, who has been apprehended in Hobart, and a constable will be sent over to'convoy him back to the Dominion. As the outcome of <t-he seizure of liquor on the train at the local railway station a week ago, informations have been laid against John Curran and Leyris Grant on three counts: that in purchasing the liquor in Trimaru thiey did not apprise the vendor that it was intended for consumption in a no-license area; that they did not label the packages so as to make it evident that they contained liquor; and for keep.ing. liquor for sale in a no-license area. It was stated in error in our yesterdays issue that the annual meeting of the Oamaru Hospital was to be held 'ast evening. The date is next Thursday evenin?, January 14th. All parts of the district would appear to be visited at intervals with ruin showers that may be regarded, if not as unseasonable, at least as foreign to what has generally been regarded as the local standard of climatology. At Ngapara and the vicinity yesterday aftornoon there was a fall of rain which was quite of u torrential character, accompanied by thunder and, in some parts, heavy hail. In connection with the statement made in last night's Mail that 6000 carcases of lamb and mutton had been railed to tort Chalmers for shipment by the s.s. Rimutaka, owing to that vessel being too largo to be safely accommodated at Oamaru, a gentleman interested in the district's welfare has forwarded a comparison of the reactive dimensions of the s.s. Rimutaka and the s.s. Papanui, The latter vessel, which is not a stranger to Oamaru waters, has a net tonnage of 4242 tons, is 430 ft. long, hue a 54ft. lin. beam, and a depth of 30ft. lin. The Riinutaka's net tonnage is 5114 tons, her length is 457 ft. (in., her beam 58ft. 2in., and her depth 30ft. Sin. It will thus be seen that so far ae the haaidiing of the vessels is concerned very little more water would lie required for the Rimutaka than for the Papanui. Tho Rimutaka is a twin screw steamer, while the Papanui has a tiinglo screw, and could not, given similar water conditions, be so easily berthed.
