Mr C rrdiner said the matter was a very smnll one: the shipping companies h :•[ notified tliat thev would irrant no ano the Hoard should erect the sh"d. ttsinir the Kailwav Department's £25.

Thv Chairman could not accept an amendment in view of the motion already on the books. The motion was lost. Mr fJardiner cave notice to move that tlie former motion be rescinded and that the Hoard erect a shed not to exceed £75 in cost, making nso of the Railway Department's nroffered assistance. The Secretary of the Marine Department. Wellington, wrote covering proposed reflations rog.irdintr motor boats and niv: hanicnlly propellod .«mail boats, and the Board's opinion in reference thereto.—The Secretary paid this would affect only fishing boats.—Referred to the Harbormaster for renort. With reference to a cheoue for £5 5s in favor of the Oamuru Borough Council for rent of Opera House for meeting of ratepayers held to discuss the Board's loan proposals, the Receiver wrote that it miL r ht be necessary for the Receiver to have the direction of the Court as to whether or not he can nay such expenses, and it would be better in the meantime that all account? in connection with the proposed loan lie held over.—The Chairman said he had since seen the Receiver, who saitl that application should be made early to the. Court for expenses connected with the taking of the poll.—Remitted to the Standing Committee, on the motion of Mr Lane. Mr James Miller, Port Chalmers, wfote tint he had. on behalf of the Board, examined all the dredging appliances on Dredge 404 and found them in good order. —Received. Lieutenant-Colonel H. T. Head. Wellington.' wrote as follows:—"I hold £IOOO d< bentures of the '79 loan of vour Board. I have examined your published accounts for 1930 up to 31st December. 1907. from which it appears that the debt increases vt;.r!y by about £6OOO. It seems evident, therefore, that the longer debenture-hold-res wait the lees they will get. I have seen in newspaper reports that the Board may offer terms to the '79 bondholders. Having regard to the debt an everincreasing. one. I would ask you at. once what proposals the Board are prepared to make. Otherwise. I propose to anneal under the Harbor Board Act of 1908, section 205. subsection 2. to the Supreme Court for relief by the sale of lands held by the Board. 1 suppose there is no sale for 1879 bondholders in Oamaru i;self?"— Le'ter replied to. The Board's solicitors, in reply to a onestion. ;ave the amnion tliar. although it was not contemplated to ;. r o to the ratepayers more than once on the same proposal. there was nothing in the Loan Act to prevent the Board again appealing to the ratepayers if thought desirable. —Received. The Acting Harbormaster Teporte-d that since last renort inward cargo had been bandied to the amount of 954 "tons 2cwt 2nrs. and outward amounting to 2513 tons Bcwt lor. making a total of 5467 tons lOcwt sqr handled. The Acting Harbormaster reported as follows: —"Since Inst report there have been 15 steamers in and out of the port and one sailing vessel inwards ithe barque Kassa). making an aggregate tonnage of 9-tCj5 tons. Dredge 404 arrived from Dunedin on Thursday, 19th in>t.. and started dredging onerations the following morning at 4"a.m. She has worked the full number of hours during the week, and during that time has dredged to 18 feet low' water over an area including lines Xos. 7 outside and 76 inside from a distance of 100 feet west of line of beacons to 100 feet off breakwater end. Calculating a full load at 500 tons, she has taken 5000 tons of spoil away. We have started on lines 15 feet apart at

1 the ba.se and which converge at the mono- ■ lith. and therefore I think the bank round that part of the breakwater should be weli cleared off. I propose to go all over it auaiu unless instructed otherwise by the Hoard. The weather to-day is .not iiiitable for uettinir pood soundings, lint I Evil! have thorn taken the first favorable liDportunity. I may state that the pump ftvorks splendidly in but inside No. [l2 line the bottom is too soft to allow the fpoil to settle in the hopper, and therefore we cannot load her so soon there a? outside. We will take every, favorable opportunity of working outside to get a minimum denth of 13 feet at low water. The Secretary said that the question of eoalini: and overtime had cropped.' up. There was a custom at Port Chalmers for four hours t-> be allowed for necessary veniiis. otc. That was taken out of workin.' time. The Dunedin Hoard would not allow overtime unless the time was taken off.—The Secretary was asked to trv to arrange for the men to work the" four hours overtime, and tile Boatd to' pay

overt ime rates. Accounts amounting to £582 2s 9d were na*«ed for payment. The Secretary reported that- the cost of v»::::inL r -in training piles from. Holme? whirf *n dolphin would be about- £4OO. The strut't tire would be of a frail nature, and would not stand bumping by the vessel?.—Several members expressed the opinion that the work was necessary, and the-matter was referred to the Standing Committee. The report was received. The date of .the December meeting was fixed for Monday. 14th December. The Hoard then rose.
