Growers are offering very little wheat, an,d while buyers are inclined to lower their limit of price in consequence of the weaker ton.e in the market, sellers are holding lirmly. The splendid crops of wheat- in Olago are also impressing Canterbury millers, who look for •» coiisklctable surplus despite the fact thai the total acreage for the Jvomiiiion- is smaller this year than rait. Only a few lots have clanged hands locally .during the week, iiOCO "bushels of Hunters having been pnrch:>se<i at 4s and 400 buslu-ls of the rtiin-e variety at 4s 3d. There is no busiirrss of any moment passing in oats. The amount of grain stacked this year is much larger than usual and offerings are restricted partly on this account, and also -because farmers are not -anxious to sell oats at present. A few sales of chaff have taken place at £4, but buyers are finding difficulty in resetliug, and consequently are not inclined to <lo further business at the price. The demand for cocksfoot from the North h-slaml has resulted in prices being- very high and tii-111, and u merchant's sale of a Vina? of 16ib seed at 9d is the highest figure recorded for some years past.
