'■■' It is- understood that a proposal is on foot fori the federation of the Slaughtermen's Unions of New Zealand. The proposal originated in Wellington, where a conference is likely to "be held at an early "date.. The Otago_S!aughtermen's Union has approved of the federation, and will be represented at the conference. . AUCKLAND.. July 23. At the Chamber of Commerce to-morrow Messrs' Macdonald,. Wilson, and Co. (of Wellington), in conjunction with Mr T. Mahdeno Jackson, will sell the new town of Horopito, situated on the Main Trunk railway line; midway between Auckland and Wellington. The sale has created a large amount of interest, not only locally, but especially so in the districts along the trunk line. At the; conclusion of- the Kia Ora- inquiry the Court expressed the highest appreciation of the services rendered- by the settlers, and hoped that their services would be suitably irecognised and rewarded. Great credit was due to Constable M'Oartny and Mr Holmes for the part thev took in assisting the settlers, and afterwards in searching for the bodies of the drowned.
