The following is the report of the North Otago Jockey Club to be read at the an uual meeting on Wednesday evening:--"Your Committee, in presenting then animal report, desire to again congratulate the members on the success of the pas; season. During the year two race meetj ings were held, both of which proved pro.itable, more particularly the -May fixture. ' On both occasions the Club was favorec ! uy beautiful weather, which helped tin success of the meetings. .Stakes to the amount of £1375 were given, as agams, £IO9O for the previous season. The sun: ,of £675 was apportioned to the spring, i and £7OO for the winter, fixture. \our ; Committee again desire to thauk the I Trustees of the Uamaru Racecourse reservefor their assistance in painting and nil proving the buildings and fences, and ;-hy for granting the Ciub the use of the paddock on the right, at the entrance g.tuv on which to erect the care-taker's cottage. Sinco the last annual meeting a ne\\ totalisator house has been erected, and is considered by the totalisator staff to be one of the best of its size in the South Island. Owing to the largo number oi horses training in Oamaru, and also the liberal support given by St. J. M. Buckley, Esq., your Committee deemed it advisable to appoint a permanent caretaker, which has already proved a great benefit to owners. Previous to the May meeting the course from the six furlong post homewas top-dressed, and was in capital order for the meeting named, many eongratula tions being expressed by visiting owners. Your Committee are pleased to note the better class of horses which now compete at the Club's meetings. The attendance at both gatherings showed a- marked increase on former meetings, and we have every reason to believe that there will still be a further increase in the attendance. Your Committee consider that the success of the Club for the past season is in n large measure due to the carefully framed programmes, and even increase in stakes. It- is with pleasure your Committee note that- there are no outstanding liabilities this year. The membership shows 109. Your Committee would again suggest- that an effort be made to increase this number. Finance. —The balance-sheet, as submitted, shows receipts for £2704 8s lOd, and expenditure for £2115 7s 2d, leaving a- balance to credit of £589 Is Bd, which must bo considered very satisfactory in view of the large amount spent during the year in permanent improvements and plant. Your Committee again wish to thank Mr Potter (the vice-president) for granting the use of the Club-room for our meetings. The thanks of the members arc duo to the St. John Ambulance Brigade for their kind attendance at our meetings; fortunately, their services were not required. A word of acknowledgment is also due to Mr Wm. Bee, who filled Mr Christie's place at the scales at a moment's notice for the spring meeting; also to the Coursing Club and Mr J. O'Brien for allowing us to obtain the soil for top-dressing." The following members retire by effluxion of time, but are eligible for reelection :—Messrs R. A. Glenn, R. O. Campbell, J. O'Brien, J.
