Armstrong and Noble remained" at the iwickets for the rest of the day, and when the stumps were drawn ihe total stood at 469 for two wickets. Armstrong indulged in magnificent driving. He was twice missed in one over of Braund's—lirst when 205 and again when 215. OIF the spi,-:-over he scored 20. He knocked up 100 in 155 minutes. Noble was batting 55 minutes before he hit a fourer. attendance was estimated at 1500. After Noble had added 20 to his overnight score [he was caught by Poyritz. He was three hours and 20 minutes at the wickets, and displayed good cutting. He gave na chances, and his score included 13 fourers. —3f0T492. Armstrong was 255 when Duff joined him. The newcomer had scored onlv a dozen when Newton caught him. — 4 for 521. Armstrong's play to-day so far was characterised by steady, careful tactics. At. luncheon the score was 597 for four wickets (Armstrong 291). Darling was then 49, obtained by good driving and cutting. On resuming, Armstrong was more lively, and added a dor.en while Darling remained stationary. With the. score at 609 the Australians declared their innings closed. Armstrong's 303 establishes a record.
